One can go for forest walks, on trails around the project, visit the local market or the revered and sacred Manan temple. Guests can also make the journey to the newly opened Khadu adventure cafe in Nanni or hop over to Narkanda town for Skiing in the winters or just soak in the snow-peaked Himalayan mountains. The Shilaroo Project

2022-10-05 ,

Housed in an apple orchard built on the principles of regenerative farming practices, our family-run holistic residency in Himachal, The Shilaroo Project provides restful accommodations to travelers from everywhere! Including wholesome and nutritious farm-fresh vegetarian meals (on request) with panoramic views of the Churdhar range.
The Shilaroo Project also offers workshops on yoga and pottery. To know more about classes, check our website.

The space

We are first and foremost a home. We do not claim to be a resort or a hotel. Understanding this is key in experiencing the project. We do our best in making your time with us as comfortable, joyful, and smooth as we can with the resources we have. There is slowness and hardiness to life in the mountains and we try to replicate this very real and natural flow in the way we live and offer our home for travelers to explore or find quietude in. So, please do recognize, embrace and set your expectations in accordance with your surroundings when you decide to stay in the project admits the mighty Himalayas.

The main building of the Shilaroo Project where all our guests are accommodated is located in a corner of the farm to maximize the amount of land left over for:-

1. Regenerative systems - Horticulture/Agriculture
2. Waste-water treatment
3. Rain-water harvesting systems
4. Solar energy driven backup
5. The pottery studio.

In order to passively heat the main building, it is oriented such that it faces south by south-west so as to receive the maximum amount of sun. To further help with heating, the extensive use of glass ensures that the building remains warm even in the winter.
The material palette of exposed brick, terracotta, and wood, lends it additional visual warmth.
Guests have to walk down a very short path from the entrance to reach the main building, situated on the National highway. This is followed by an outdoor winding staircase built around the natural layout of the orchard to reach the doors of the project.

The private spaces include:-
(All the rooms are located on the first floor of the main building)

1. Two private double rooms (with en-suite facilities), each with individual sit-outs overlooking the Churdhar Range. These rooms are ideal for individuals or couples looking for a quiet and speculative time. Each room is amply furnished with easy chairs, cupboards, a dressing table, and a little balcony sit-out.
2. We also house two bigger rooms for larger groups; One room with 5 single beds(en-suite facilities) and the second with 3 single beds (bathroom located right outside the room available only to guests staying in this room).

There are several common areas in the building which the guests are welcome to explore during their stay!
The expansive lounge adjacent to the kitchen is always a favorite for conversations, playing board games, or simply savoring the panoramic views on the wooden swing. The lounge leads to a community dining area to encourage wholesome social interactions among the guests.
For those looking to work or use their time creatively, the generous attic library is the ultimate space filled with a variety of books, art supplies, easels, sunlight, and mountain vistas.

The interiors and aesthetics of the project are a collection of our time and memories as a family across the country. We believe in living as sustainable a life as we possibly can! in keeping true to this lifestyle, most of the furniture, cutlery, some little pieces, and practices to build up the project have been up-cycled, re-cycled, or made using natural materials.

Guest access

1. We offer parking space to our guests inside our gates. One can also park their cars around the main gate if they wish.

3. The guests will also have access to our warm and bright attic/library for quiet, creative, reflective, or simply some sleepy times.
The lounge/ living and the dining area on the ground floor is a crowd favorite and usually the meeting point for guests to interact or play some indoor games with each other.
4. The project is situated just above a small forest, where guests can venture out for day walks or picnics. There are a few day trails for our more adventurous guests all around Shilaroo.
